The Pantone Color Institute finally has revealed the color for 2022. PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, a purple-ish tone that in their words “illustrates the fusion of modern life and how color trends in the digital world are being manifested in the physical world and vice versa.”
This sets a trend for future design applications but sets a focus on digital design and technological products, and makes a wink to Facebook’s Metaverse, VR, and augmented reality efforts.
Pantone has mentioned in the presentation how our “physical and digital lives have merged in new ways”. So it’s a safe bet to say that the color selection has a futuristic perspective, in an exciting way, but with a hopeful perspective, with a tonal range from calm, blue cold tones, to a pinch of vibrant red.
The Pantone Color of the Year selection process requires thoughtful consideration and trend analysis. The institute makes extensive research for color tendencies across different design disciplines around the world, including the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions.
